Privacy Policy Effective August 8, 2026
ChronoReader is a Chrome extension for focused, one-word-at-a-time reading. When you activate it on a page, the extension extracts the readable text and shows it one word at a time at a pace you choose. Everything happens inside your browser. C&J Studios does not run a server that receives or stores the text you read.
What you can read — When you activate ChronoReader, it reads the active page or the passage you explicitly selected so it can display that text in the focused reader. This processing occurs inside your browser.
What ChronoReader stores on your device — Your reading preferences (theme, type, focal color, speed). A local daily count of the free pages you have used. Your Pro license key, a cached subscription status, and a random account-binding secret synced by Chrome when Chrome Sync is enabled. ChronoReader does not receive your Chrome email address. The free-page counter stores short hashes of counted page URLs, not a browsing history. You can remove local data by uninstalling the extension or clearing its storage.
Payments and account information — Paid subscriptions are processed by Stripe on its hosted pages. Stripe may receive your email address, payment details, transaction records, and subscription status. ChronoReader's billing service stores hashed license and Chrome account-binding identifiers plus the Stripe customer, subscription, checkout-session, and status identifiers needed to provide Pro access. The random binding prevents a paid key from working under a different Chrome Sync profile. C&J Studios does not receive your Chrome email address or full payment-card number.
Permissions — activeTab and scripting: open the reader only on the page you activate. contextMenus: provide the "Open this in ChronoReader" action for selected text. storage: save settings, quota state, and cached entitlement.
Sharing and sale — C&J Studios does not sell your personal information or reading text. Information is shared only with service providers needed for billing and subscription management, when you choose to use those services, or when required by law.
Chrome Web Store Limited Use — ChronoReader uses and transfers user data only to provide its focused reading and optional Pro billing features. It does not use user data for advertising, unrelated purposes, creditworthiness, or lending. Reading text is not transferred for human review.
Contact messages — The contact form prepares a message in your email app. ChronoReader's website does not submit or store the form fields. Your email provider processes the message only when you choose to send it.
Retention and security — Reading text is not retained by C&J Studios. Local extension data remains in your browser until reset or removed. Stripe retains transaction and account records according to its policies and legal obligations. ChronoReader retains billing entitlement records while needed to provide Pro access and meet legal obligations. We use the minimum Chrome permissions needed for the product's single purpose.
Your choices — You may use the Free plan without creating a ChronoReader account. You may remove local data by uninstalling the extension. Paid users can manage or cancel subscriptions through the Stripe customer portal and can request billing help through the support page.
Children — ChronoReader is not directed to children under 13, and C&J Studios does not knowingly collect personal information from children through the extension.
Changes — Material policy changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date.

Terms of Service Effective August 8, 2026
These terms govern your use of ChronoReader, a Chrome extension operated by C&J Studios.
Using ChronoReader — You may use ChronoReader only for lawful reading of content you are authorized to access. You are responsible for complying with the terms, copyright rules, and access restrictions of the pages and documents you open.
Free and Pro plans — The Free plan permits reading on two unique page URLs per local calendar day. Reopening a counted URL does not consume another page. Pro removes this daily page limit while an eligible paid entitlement remains active.
Subscriptions — Pro is offered at US$2.99 per month, US$19.99 per year, or US$29.99 as a one-time lifetime purchase. Subscriptions renew automatically at the stated billing interval until canceled. Lifetime access does not renew. Stripe processes checkout, billing, receipts, and subscription management on hosted pages. You can cancel through the Stripe customer portal. Cancellation takes effect according to the portal confirmation, normally at the end of the current billing period. Except where required by law, completed subscription charges are non-refundable. Contact support if you believe a charge was made in error.
Product boundaries — Chromebooks, Chrome internal pages, and a few protected viewers do not allow extensions. On those pages, ChronoReader will not start. ChronoReader does not promise a particular reading speed, comprehension result, academic outcome, or productivity gain. Adjust the reader to suit the material and your needs.
Availability and changes — We may improve, change, suspend, or discontinue features. If a material paid feature is removed, we will provide any remedy required by applicable law. Prices may change for future billing periods with notice; existing charges are not changed retroactively.
Acceptable use — You may not misuse the extension, attempt to bypass subscription checks, interfere with Stripe or ChronoReader billing services, reverse engineer protected services except where law permits, or use ChronoReader to access content without authorization.
Disclaimer and liability — ChronoReader is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis to the extent permitted by law. C&J Studios is not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from use of the extension. Nothing in these terms excludes rights or liabilities that cannot legally be excluded.
Governing law — These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the applicable laws of Canada, without limiting mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
